Instant Back Yard Pond!

One of the projects we did over the long 4th of July weekend involved, you guessed it, another stock tank!

A lot of our garden veggies are planted in stock tanks-they're like an instant raised bed...this particular stock stank had a different purpose though...
It was destined to be a fish pond yay! We just washed out an old stock tank really well, added some rocks for hiding places and shade...

went and got some water plants at the nursery...

let the fish go...

and ta-da! Instant fish pond!

It adds such a nice element to the garden...

for only a few dollars and a little bit of time, it was well worth it!

The water hyacinths bloomed just a couple days after we brought them home, so beautiful!

Orchid likes to look at the fish swimming around too!

After the pond had been in about a week, I realized I needed some 'cleaners', so we got some bottom feeders and snails...and I couldn't resist getting a few 'fancy' goldfish as well!

Contrary to popular belief, those snails cruise around like crazy, they're all over the place and they're relatively fast...for snails anyway lol!
An awesome side benefit of the pond? The bees land on the water plants to drink-so less bee drowning in the chicken waterers!
One of my favorite morning chores now is going out into the garden, checking all the plants and feeding the fish and the bantam chickens! Hope you're having a wonderful summer and happytrails!
